Introduction

 I DECIDED TO WRITE ABOUT THIS TOPIC FOR MY COURSE WORK FOR COMPUTER SUBJECT (CO1601) 2003 BECAUSE I AM A SECOND INTAKE STUDENT. FROM MY EXPERIENCE OF REGISTERING FOR THE SECOND TIME I HAD DIFFICULTIES IN KNOWING WHERE TO GO, WHO TO MEET, WHAT TO DO AND WORSE WHERE I WAS!!! 

 I STARTED STUDYING IN UBD IN LATTER TIME, NOT ON THE FIRST DAY OF COLLEGE LIKE MOST OF THE OTHER STUDENTS. IN JANUARY I FIRST REGISTERED AND CHOSE BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AS MY 1ST CHOICE, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE MATHEMATICS AS MY SECOND.  

I GOT NEITHER OF THEM. THIS IS DUE TO THE GRADE 'D' AND 'E' PRESENCE IN MY A-LEVEL RESULTS- EVEN THOUGH I GOT A GRADE 'B' TOO! FOR B.SC. MATHEMATICS, STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE A-LEVEL SCIENCE SUBJECT IN THEIR RESULTS IN ORDER TO TAKE IT. BUT I DO NOT HAVE ANY, SINCE I ONLY DID A-LEVEL IN MATHEMATICS, ACCOUNTING AND GEOGRAPHY. 

SO HERE IT IS, THE FIRST AND ONLY WEBSITE MADE FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE THE 2ND INTAKE IN UBD. I HOPE THIS WEB SITE WILL ENLIGHTEN YOU ALL!!!

Second Intake

-Not accepted for the registration (enrolment for July) this year?

Apply again and take a different programme or appeal for the programme that you applied last time.

-What do you have to do?

As soon as you get the news that you are not accepted by UBD, straight away you write a letter of appeal and give it to the people who are in-charge in the registrar's office. You have to address the letter to Cikgu Haji Jalil bin Haji Maidin.

-What must be in the letter?

-You must mention about the programme (different from the one you applied last January) that you want and if you still want the programme that you applied last January, appeal for it and mention it in the same letter. Your phone number and identity card number must be there too.

-When will you receive the news (whether you are accepted or not) from them (registrar's office)?

-You will hear from them in less than a week. If you still do not receive any news then, call the registrar's office.

 If you are taking a programme that do not need to undergo any interviews and you have been told that you are accepted, you are to go to the registrar's office and get the 'surat tawaran' or acceptance letter.

 If you are taking a programme that do need to undergo an interview, the venue of the interview and the time will be told when you receive a call from the registrar office. You are accepted in taking the programme you applied for, when you are given a memo (which states you are accepted) by the interviewer and are told to give it to Cikgu Jalil at the registrar's office. If Cikgu Jalil's not in the office, give it to someone who works there (clerk). You will be told when your acceptance letter must be collected (usually the next day).

-Already received the acceptance letter (surat tawaran)?

-Okay. You must fill in a form which is attached to the 'Surat tawaran' and give it in as soon as possible. The letter will mention what you must do next.

i) From the letter, the first thing you have to do is to go to Information Communication and Technology Centre (ICTC), third floor. This building is located at the left side of the Library. (See map). The person you have to meet is Dk. Raden Kartini Binti Pg. Haji Mahmud, a programmer. Be ready with the acceptance letter because she will be needing it and remember to ask a registration form from her.

ii) Next thing you have to do is to go to the Assistant Registrar. You have to bring along your registration form so that the Assistant Registrar can fill in the Subjects spaces. (See map for the locations of faculties)

Note: The Assistant Registrar that you need to see is not usually from the faculty which is stated in your acceptance letter, it depends on the programme you are taking! (See Table 1)

Note: Do not forget to ask for your lessons timetable from the Assistant registrar and start going for lectures or tutorial.

When the subjects for your 1st semester are known. You then have to go to the head of department of every subject you are taking and get their signatures. When finished, return the form to your Assistant Registrar.

-Students Affair Building

iii) After that go to Students Affair Building, 1st floor (Building 'J' in map) Room 'Persatuan Mahasiswa/siswi Universiti Brunei Darussalam'-(PMUBD).

You must have;

- About $300 for registration payment. (Last time I paid $265)

-At least 1 of your passport sized picture, 2 copies of your acceptance letter and 2 copies of your identity card. You need these because you will be given a form and the copies must be attached to the form.

 

 iv) After finished with the form and the payment that you will be given a UBD folder which contains;

-Orientation stuff (which you won't be needing anymore since you miss orientation)

-Pledge form.

-UBD identification card application form.

Read the pledge form and sign it. Put your name and registration number (which is stated in your acceptance letter) Give this to the main students affair office. There, you will be asked to show your acceptance letter before handing in your pledge form. If you have Brunei nationality they will give you allowance application form which must be handed in before the end of that month and a set of forms (about a bond with the government) which you can hand in anytime during your studies in UBD.

 About the UBD card application, go to ICTC (see map) third floor, room. There your picture will be taken digitally and you will be told when to collect your UBD card.

Note: Your UBD card is very important. You need this when borrowing books, when attending exams and when you are in UBD library.

v) Lastly, library tour. You must go to the UBD library and ask for the officer who is in charged of the library tour.

Note: Library tour is very important because you WILL NOT be able to graduate at the end of your studies in UBD if you never go for the library tour (the library officer has told me). You will be given a certificate after you have undergone the tour.

Remember to go for medical fitness at any 4 major hospitals in Brunei Darussalam.
